About Andrew Aitken

Andrew Aitken is one of the world’s leading experts in open source business strategy, with a career spanning over two decades at the intersection of enterprise software, open innovation, and developer ecosystems. He has helped global enterprises, governments, and startups unlock growth and resilience by embracing open source not just as a technology choice, but as a business model and competitive advantage.

Andrew founded Olliance Group—the industry’s first open source strategy consulting firm—where he advised clients like IBM, Intel, Microsoft, and the U.S. Navy. After Olliance’s acquisition by Black Duck, he became Managing Director of Black Duck Consulting. He later served as Global Head of Open Source at Wipro, where he built a globally recognized open source brand and guided Fortune 500 clients on governance, compliance, and community engagement.

Most recently, Andrew served as Chief Open Source Officer at Hedera, where he led the successful strategy to open-source its entire codebase under the Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust initiative. This landmark move made Hedera the first public Layer 1 blockchain to donate its entire stack to open governance. He currently advises financial institutions like Moody’s on commercializing open source AI frameworks through community-led development and ecosystem growth.

A recognized thought leader, Andrew has delivered keynotes and presentations around the world, including the Global Developer Conference in Shanghai, where he spoke on open source and AI strategy. He serves on multiple open source foundation boards including FINOS, OpenSSF, LF Networking, and OSEHRA. His unique value lies in translating technical innovation into scalable business models—whether through open core, marketplaces, inner source transitions, or foundation stewardship—and in bridging Web2, Web3, and AI developer communities to accelerate adoption and impact.
